Does your little one sleep with a night light? 💡
Although you may have heard that light too close to bed time can be disruptive to our natural rhythms — different colours of light can be beneficial to sleep!
There has been some research conducted on red/orange light and it’s benefits for sleep. However, it has so far shown to have positive effects. 😴
I like to test out options & so far, the red light has been a hit with Ben!
If your little one need a night light, I highly suggest giving a red one a shot! There are some that even change colour to mimic night and day needs.
If your child does not require a night light — keep them in a blacked out room for as long as possible as this helps maintain their circadian rhythm best ⚫️
Note — the sun emits blue light waves, which tells us it’s time to be awake! Blue light is also emitted from:
🔆 Fluorescent lighting
🔆 LED lighting
🔆 TV/Cellphones/Tablets
🔆 Gaming devices
It’s best to avoid anything that emits blue light for at least 2 hours before bed time to help the brain understand that it’s time for sleep.

Did you know that at birth, the amount of iron your baby is born with is enough to support initial growth?
But they grow and develop, as does their need for iron.
🩸Iron is crucial as it supports proper neurological development and aids in the making of hemoglobin.
After 6 months, introduce meat to your baby. Some iron rich heme foods include 👇
Chicken
Bison
Eggs
Salmon
Haddock
Duck
Rabbit
While heme is better absorbed by the body — non-heme can also be beneficial. Some examples of Non-Heme Iron rich foods include 👇
Almond butter
Edamame
Chickpeas
Fortified Infant Cereal
Oatmeal
Peas
Sesame/Tahini
❗️It’s important to note that if you are providing a vegan diet for your baby, to combine these with foods high in Vitamin C to help increase absorption.

Can we all just agree that doing what’s best for

Can we all just agree that doing what’s best for YOUR own family and YOUR own baby is what’s most important? And this could look different from family to family 😊
A widely debated topic is Puréed vs Baby Led Weaning. Im here to say there are no strict rules when it comes to the way you should feed your baby, although I have many friendly suggestions🥑.
There will always be conflicting arguments and evidence over which method is best — do what works best for YOU and your family.
The most important thing is to ensure you’re implementing responsive feeding habits. This means observing your baby’s cues for hunger and for when they are full — and then responding appropriately.
❗️It is important that babies eat solids when they are hungry and only until they are satisfied.
Whichever method of feeding you ultimately choose, you should be sure that:
✨ It provides plenty of opportunity for baby to self feed — encourage hand feeding and then introduce utensils. Expect a mess with this one! 😂
✨ Nutritional needs are met — organ meats, seafood, eggs, avocado, bananas etc. are some foods important for ensuring they are meeting their required daily caloric intake & sufficient iron supplementation
✨ Make sure you’re introducing high allergen foods early in your food journey! I can’t stress this one enough. The earlier you introduce these foods, the less likely they are to develop an allergy to them!

You’ve put baby to sleep and you’re snuggled u

You’ve put baby to sleep and you’re snuggled up in bed just about to fall asleep and before you know it, baby is awake, crying and ready to be fed. Sound familiar?
You may have heard the term “Dream Feed”. If you google it, you’ll find a ton of opinions on it.
Let me simplify it for you!
A dream feed is a feed that takes place a few hours after their bedtime feed, but just before you go to bed.
Essentially the idea is to feed your baby while they’re still asleep, allowing for a longer stretch of sleep for baby and YOU through the night.
Sounds dreamy right? ☁️
Dream feeding can also help increase your milk supply and is super beneficial for babies who need to eat more frequently, being newborns or going through growth spurts.
It is important to observe your baby’s sleeping patterns so that you can figure out an ideal time to initiate a Dream Feed. Baby may be waking at night because they’re hungry, so about 30 minutes prior to when they would naturally wake in the night is a great time!
To initiate a Dream Feed, wake your baby just enough for them to latch or take the bottle. Try to keep stimulation to a minimum. ⏬
Dim lights, soft voice, keep them swaddled or in their sleep sack.
❗️Note that Dream Feeding may not work for every baby — and that’s okay, mama!
Try it out for 5-7 nights and if baby is having a hard time returning to sleep or still waking at normal times through the night, drop the Dream Feed.
